This story I have translated from a Swedish magazine.
Please excuse me,
if I might use the wrong words from time to time :-)
YOU CAN NOT GET ALL THAT YOU WANT!

Around us in our daily life there are always small dramas
that never gets to the news.
One must however take notice to the value in words.
If a five year old donīt get what he wants,
is that a drama?
Probably not. On the other hand, how strong is the pain that little boy feels,
when he is on the floor screaming,
cause his mother wont give him what
he desires most in that moment,
a little black plastic gun.
I noticed such a drama,
when I recently visit the mall downtown.
A young mother with a stroller,
were on her way out through the door
from the toy store. Left inside, between the shells were her screaming five year old son. In his right hand he held a little black toy gun, packed in plastic. I want this, I want this.... he screamed out. He was in tears, in fact he was crying as if his heart
was going to burst.
Just outside the door was his mother and she said with a very soft voice: Please, put away the gun and come out to me No, No the boy yelled, I want the gun!!! For just a second the mother let go of the stroller and took one step
back inside. _ Canīt you hear me, come on , now ! Lowering her voice until it sounded as a threat. And her face was blushing. She looked quickly that the stroller with the baby was safe and I noticed a few bags from a nearby shop on top of the stroller. At the same time an elderly lady arrived at the scene. - I must say, I donīt understand parents buying war toys to there kids, she said with a loud voice. The young mother just looked at her but said nothing.
- My boys used to play Wilhelm Tell,
or Robin Hood using what
they could find outside on the ground.
It was all very innocent!

I noticed that the mother were getting very irritated. Maybe she wanted the old lady to disappear in to thin air. But she said nothing. Instead she turned to her screaming son, saying- Iīm leaving now, taking the baby with me, you can stay here if you like. She started to push the stroller with the sleeping baby. Now the boy got really upset, screaming as loud as he could.
You are so stupid Mum, stupid, stupid!!!
An old gentleman with a brown overcoat and a hat came and stopped next to the old lady. - Parents now a days are so hopeless, he said, they just
let the kids behave as they please. His voice could be heard very clearly. If I had done a thing like that I would have ended up in the closet!! The old lady looked at him, very pleased - You are so right she said, there are no rules anymore. The mother stopped and went back inside very quickly. She grabbed the screaming boy at the same time as she took the
plastic gun and put it back on the shell. - Oh what terrible toys they have now a days, said the lady from the doorway. - When I was young we made our own toys from bark, said the old man. But now kids gets all that they want. It was much better in the old days, much better!!
The drama was interesting and I wanted to see how it ended. I followed the mother with her screaming boy as she slowly waked away. The boy was still very much upset and I heard how she told him
over and over - sch, darling, you canīt have everything that you want. Mum and Dad canīt either. No one can! She hugged him gently and at the same time she whispered something to him. That worked like magic, since the little boy stopped crying. - Is that far away, he asked. No, it is just around the corner, she answered. Well, behind the next corner I saw a big sign, CAFE it said :-) I had a cup of coffee as I sat down to see the end of the drama. The little boy were happy again with his big banana split. Just as I was leaving I heard him say to his mother with a smile
- I have a gun already, a blue one!
The End
Some words from me :-)
Well, we all know how hard it can be when a little kid starts screaming like that in a public place. A nightmare, really As grownups we know that we can't always have everything we want but for a kid that is hard to understand. Forcing them to understand always negates but acting fast and keeping our own calm together with a little bribe can help up the situation. The mother in this story kept her calm in a very stressful situation, and at the same time she made the little boy wanting something else. Something she could give him. Remember, in order to get someone to do or to want something, you have to make him want to do it on his own. Even if it is only to choose between a plastic toy gun that you can't afford or a banana split. You might think that using a bribe is wrong, but if you were going to
eat something anyway, it is a good bribe:-)
So you see how important words can be when using the right ones.
