Music
The Greek Music, mmmm love most of it
There is so much to say about the greek music.
I suppose you love it or hate it but
I donīt think there is a person not being
touch one way or the other.
For me it was easy even though I live in Sweden.
I growed up with Mikis Theodorakis music.
He was in Sweden very often when I was a teenager
back in the 60īs.
I fell for that special music from the first song
I heard, I think.
And after my first visit(Crete -79) it was for life.
Now, I am not talking about the bouzouki music being played
on special clubs all over Greece.
Hehe, that I donīt understand either.
No, I am talking about the modern Laika music.
The kind of music you hear all over while being in Greece.
The mix from Greek traditional and modern Laika.
Singers like Dimitris Mitropanos.Giannis Poulopoulos,
Stratos Dionysos, Giorgos Dalaras, Pascalis Terzis to the
modern Notis Sfakianakis,Themis Adamantidis, Kati Garbi,
Anna Vissi, Giannis Ploutarxos, Giorgos Alkaios,
Nikos Kourkoulis,Glykeria.....
oh dear I can go on forever :-)
Donīt think I need to tell you I am an addicted.
I listen to greek music everyday, I think.
Maybe not over Christmas but it happens.
Something in these song makes me happy.
The mix between the special greek sound and
the voices from these singers goes straight to my heart.
Thankīs to internet I do have a huge music collection.
Started back in -98 to look for the favorite songs
after every holiday in Corfu, using the internet.
Now I have full albums from all my favorite singers.
Notis Sfakianakis is my number one :-)
I have them all.
And after learning some greek it is even better,
now that I understand what it is all about;-)
To make the most of the greek music while being there,
is to sit having dinner with that music in the background.
Suddenly they will turn up the volume and someone
will start to dance. As a guest you are supposed to
take part in the handclapping.
Sometimes they would lit a fire around the dancer
and it gets very special.
That is what makes greek music so fantastic.
All the different dances, most of them for men,
but it happens the ladies dance too.
Oh well, this was supposed to be a short intro.
I will be back with more :-)
