Starting with a great tip I once got.
If itīs your first visit to Greece you might
need this info, just as I did back in 1979.
This goes for all of Greece so it is not
just about Corfu.
For me it has worked where ever in Greece
I have been :-)
Ok, here we go.
So you just arrived and are looking around
for the first time.
Just got your room or apartment and
finished the *settling in*.
Itīs time to go out for dinner.
Hereīs what I learned about how to
find the best food and the nicest services.
Stroll down the main road, take your time.
Look for a small taverna, with the typical
paper clothes on the tables and the funny chairs.
Where there are local people eating as well.
You might have to really look to find it :-)
For me it was just a backyard,
and we almost missed it.
A backyard between two houses made the perfect
place for a taverna, with the kitchen in the basement.
I can honestly say that I never have had dinner
anywhere else,we got stuck there from
that very first evening.(at
Corfu)
You see, it is not at a fancy restaurante you will
get a taste of the real greek food and the greek way of life.
It is at a small taverna, with many local guests as well.
Not only do you get food so delicious you never will
forget the taste, you will also be treated
very well. And if the family running the taverna
are in a good mood there will be dancing too.
Or a guest maybe goes dancing all of a sudden
and you will find yourself part of the handclapping
going on.
It is the unexpected that gives the extra to your
dinner.
So if you are used to travel with all included,
donīt do that when going to Greece.
You will miss out on all that is special for Greece.
Also very important to remember is that all greek
meals are supposed to take time.
be prepared for spending at least 2 hours,
sitting on very hard chairs.
(it is ok to change chairs, infact they expect you to do that after a while lol)
