Oh yes, most tourists are back and it is slowly turning in to the busiest time of the year for
my Greek friends in Gouvia. I just heard from another friend online who just got back and
everything was going on as usual with full house and dancing every evening at the Taverna
Aries in Gouvia
How I wish I could go back, but it doesn´t look like that this year either. The truth is I just don´t have enogh money to pay for the trip. Living on a small sickpension. That makes me
really sad and I must say I do miss that special little village more and more for every year
passing by without me being able to go back
Haven´t seen my friends there since 2003 now and it breaks my heart, really. Oh, I still
listen to a lot of Greek music to make up for it and to help me remember all the good times
we had together, but I would really want to be able to have 1 or 2 weeks again soon.
For all of you reading this, planning on visiting Corfu for the first time, I can promise you a
very nice holiday on this green beautiful little Greek island.
To find out about what to do and how to do it, please read my other articles. I have tried to
cover most of what you need to know to have a great holiday.
What I can highly recommend is to rent a car and take a tour around the island on your own.
Since it is a rather small island it wont take you many hours to do so. But if you decide to
take a break and go swimming at one of the beautiful beaches you will find on the
westcoast, you might need a few days with the car. To go by bus is a nice way of seeing different parts of
the island too. You will find busstops everywhere along the main road from Corfu Town.
Using the busses is an easy and low cost way and it is fun, trust me.
Remember however to always bring lots of water with you on sightseeings, you will need
that to avoid drying out completely, since it can be very hot in June, July and
August.
While writing this we do have a very nice summer here in Sweden too, almost Greek temp.
Without all the special things that comes with being on a holiday however. I guess I just will
have to go on dreaming about the next time. Listening to my favorite Greek songs, closing
my eyes and remembering all the good times down there. Hoping that one day I will be back
to see my friends again. The worst part of not being able to go is that I need it to help me
with all pain in my body. I have a bad case of Fibromyalgia. At Corfu it all goes away and I
can be almost as a normal person, don´t even need the walkingstick after a few days in the
heat. No pain whatsoever!!
It is like a miracle everytime it happens. But as they say *a person waiting for something
good, can never wait too long*. I guess that means I will have to go on waiting. Saving every penny I can find.
